Believe it or not..

What is documentary film? Documentary film is a broad category of visual expression that is based on the attempt, in one fashion or another, to “document” reality. Documentary film is almost like a movie, but in my opinion, it can be make by everyone who has something (nature) to be spread to the world.

The fact that people using documentary film to speak out their opinion, it makes people have their freedom to speak out their own opinion. There are no rules for a documentary film, so people mostly feel free to make it and published it to the world. For unprofessional film making people, they usually use YouTube to publish their film. However, in fact there are many professional filmmaker who make documentary film.

Documentary film is a film that does not use script, so everything was unplanned. That fact makes people more believe the credibility of the message. In that type of film, people use many experts to prove the message as there are many interview during this documentary film.

As I have said, documentary film does not use any script thus all interviewee has a freedom to say everything about the topic itself. For instance, for the video above people can say whatever they think about Russian Neo Nazis. Even though it is a wrong or bad though about it. In minute 2:15, the interviewee says a rude word about Russian Neo Nazis. They can agree or disagree with the question, people can say whatever their though are.

If we see on that video, they attack random people in the street. In fact it is a natural violent without any script, thus watcher will be more believe with that video.

Tap Tap Revolution

People these days want something that can contain more than one benefit from one piece of item. What is that mean? People want digital camera as a video recorder too. As well as their mobile phone, they want one electronic device that could include camera, video recorder, access to the internet, video player, map, etc. Those entire requirements we can get from our mobile phone.

Who does not have a mobile phone in this 21st century? For person more than 13 year-of-age, it is very common to have a mobile phone. The reason to have electronic device can be vary, but I believe that most of them use it not only for calling or text purpose. In the 1900s until 2004, as I know mobile phone only provide call and SMS but these days mobile phone can work almost the same as computer. According to Paul Levinson (2009), people used to read, write, see, hear and produce new new media – the devices, or I can say people like to keep in touch with new new media although they are in work or public transport. That electronic device these days provides E-mail, access to the internet, high resolution of image, etc.

There are many website these days provide streaming or download movies. Let us think, if those movie watched from a low resolution devices, like Nokia 2005 version? Will you satisfied with that? I don’t think so. That is why people in the 21st century need a device that could provide a high resolution and a dominant screen to watch movies through their phone.

Iphone and blackberry? Iphone and Blackberry are two famous electronic devices in this world. In my country (Indonesia), I can say almost people above 15 year old have it. If I go to a restaurant or coffee shop, I can see a table with full of Indonesian put their Blackberry in the table. Yes, almost all of them. Why Blackberry is very famous? Because Blackberry provides easy internet access, and Blackberry messenger. Blackberry Messenger is an application that all blackberry users can keep in touch by sending image, text or voice note.

However, the fact is Iphone still in the higher demand since it has been published in 2007 than Blackberry in this world. That product that comes from Apple Company becomes a trend in the world. Why? Because Apple took an entirely different approach and focused on making web sites work on the iPhone, as is. Since iPhone runs OS X Safari, for designers it is only a matter of figuring out how to make web pages fit onto a small screen. Naturally, there are already several technologies that exist to help people browse when the content does not fit onto a screen - scrolling, paging and zooming. So Apple combined its innovative multi-touch technology with some old ideas, to deliver a complete browsing experience to the iPhone users. How well it will work remains to be seen. Particularly, will people be able to master multi-touch and will they like the experience of looking at pieces of a web page? If the answer is yes, then the iPhone will break the Web out of the WAP prison.

In the Iphone, user could watch movie or video via YouTube. Same as Ipod, Iphone could save videos that can be watch whenever the user wants. Do not worry about the resolution, Iphone provides a high resolution! As well as an access to facebook, twitter, Myspace, blogs and my more that we can get whenever and wherever we want, as we do not have to wait until we arrived at home and turn on our computer. We can see those website almost the same as we see them in computer.

The flat screen and high resolution of Iphone help user to get what they want in a short time, as simply as tap and drag their mobile phone’s screen. In my opinion that is the reason why people are really like to use Iphone.

“The better the mobile application, the more incentive for new new media to develop cool new mobile applications. But one mobile device more than any other ignited and now typifies new new media in everyone’s hands and pockets: the Iphone”, Paul Levinson (2009, p 187).

Like me or leave me!

Politics is a process by which groups of people make collective decision. The term is generally applied to behaviour within civil government, but politics has been observed in other group interaction, including corporate, academic, and religious institutions. It consists of “social relations involving authority or power”. I believe in all parties and politicians, they want to grab all people attention to get more polling in their presidential election. Some of them using poster, speech, brochure, or any kind of media kit that be present in the world. The one that I want to explain here is, how new new media could be a part of the election. I believe that as people are really concern with their future president, thus they will find out who are they and the most easy and update medium to find out those information is from new new media these days.

According to Paul Levinson, “But Obama’s YouTube addresses, in pasticular, take advantage of all the characteristic of this new new medium, just as FDR’s fireside chats did with radio in the 1930s and ‘40s. He also informs us Obama on YouTube goes well with today world, as in fact people wants to keep in touch with their president, or at least hear and see him.

If you see the YouTube video above, it has a really good impact on the 2008 election. This video has viewed approximately 17 million times. Who would admit to voting for a candidate because of saucy or funny video? But the fact was he did very well with the under 30 years old voter, both in primaries and the general election. I reckon this video wants to tell the public that Obama is cool, interesting and attractive person. The result form this video was Obama has three times greater for voters under 30 years old than four years earlier. In this video, this girl informs the viewer that Obama is so worth to choose. However there is also the bad impact of this video. As I reckon this video as saucy and funny video, some people above 40 years want to have a serious and authoritativeness president. Obama girl video has a potential to make Obama lacks of those characteristics.

At the other case, the video above shows us how culture jamming has got in to politicians. As anyone could be the producer of new new media these days, so there is no boundary, rules and ethics. That video embarrassed and humiliating Hillary Clinton in which she also one of the candidates of American presidential election in 2008. As in fact this video has been view by around 10 millions viewer, I believe that this video has produced a bad impact of Hillary Clinton.

Movie Script Ending...

Do you know what produsage means? It is not a really common word for people. In the online network participants are not simply as passive consumer, but active users. Produsage occupy as users and producer, since people are like something that active than passive nowadays. The example for produsage is participants in YouTube, Wikipedia, and Second Life.

For a website like YouTube, consumer be able to upload their own video, which sometimes result a bad impact. “Because YouTube is fed by anyone with a video camera or camera phone, the people in the video – the subject of the clip – can just easily be unknown as famous”, Paul Levinson. Some of them use YouTube to make them as famous, meanwhile there are some of them upload it for their satisfaction. On the other hand, if you uploaded your video in good purpose, it also could end in a good result. People could like you, and you can be famous. For instance Justin Bieber, he was started his carrier by uploading his video to YouTube, and many people like his voice. Eventually, Scooter Braun were seen his video and attracted to his talent. He arranged for him to meet Usher. Bieber now becomes world famous singer only because he uploaded his video in YouTube.

If you go to www.YouTube.com and find your favorite singer, you can find another link, which actually is not your singer. People uploaded their own video singing his or her song. I am not a person who dislikes those habits because people have their own right to do so. Sometimes I found a video that much better than the actual one. I found this video in YouTube, they are covering Lady Gaga song (Just Dance), I like their voice more that Lady Gaga. Approximately 350,000 YouTube visitors have watched this video.

However, sometimes they use it to tease the singer or discriminated others that is what I c alled immoral. If you see in this video, this girl covering Spice Girl (Move Over), she mentions her friends and she discriminated her friends. Well, actually she is one of Indonesian famous actress. She became a really big issue, regarding this video. Her image became really bad in Indonesia. She uploaded this video by herself to YouTube. Some people said she is depressed while another said she is near to crazy. Her image before she uploaded this video was a very sweet and nice girl, since she always act as good girl in her movie. So we have to be careful with what we put in YouTube or any other online network, because sometimes it could result a bad impact!

Pornography can be more addictive than cocaine

Technology has become too fabulous these days. The establishment of internet has given freedom of choice and unfield the world making information transaction easy and fast. The existence of internet leading to addiction, people especially youngster at least using internet five minutes a day, it can be for browsing, sending email or chatting. That is the reason why people nowadays using internet to spread messages, for example news and advertisement. The use of internet not only for positive reason. Sometimes, people use internet to find pornography. I do not get the reason people like watching porn movie. Well, that is of course their choice to influencing their life with pornography.

The essence of “making love” has been changing regarding internet can now be accessed almost anywhere in the world. They put their video while they were having sex with their partner. That’s what I mean by the lack of the essence of “making love’. On the other hand, Ryan Singel says “internet pornography is the new crack cocaine”. Internet pornography leads to addiction, same as internet. The perfect drug delivery by internet because we are anonymous, aroused and have role models for those behaviour.

To have your drug pumped into your house anytime you want without any charge, “it is a great delivery system if we want to have a whole generation of young addicts who will never have the drug out of their mind”, Mary Anne Layden. Pornography is very addictive, it is even worse than cocaine. Do you believe it? Well, as coke users can get the drug out of their system, meanwhile pornography images stay in our brain everlastingly. In my opinion, pornography does not worth that much.

As we know there are many free porn website that do not ask for their guests age declaration. Can you imagine a 13 year-old kid watching those movies? And those images stay in their mind forever? How about if they are addicted to porn movie since they are 13 year-old?

"If everyone pretends the dragon is real...then for that society it is real..." Edward Castronova

Internet has majorly supported the growth of Virtual World. In this world, anyone could make their own customizable cyberspace or identity (this has been seen in Facebook, Myspace and many other social networking applications). Like in the real world that we lived in, we need identity to identify our self, to distinguish our self from other people. Virtual world allows us to re-identify or re-introduce our identity in this new world. The term for ‘identity’ inside the virtual world is avatar. With the capability of virtual world, it allows players inside make actions that is similar to the real life (such as buying selling trading etc), this encourage the player itself using that actions to develop their avatar inside the virtual world. The avatar is connected to the virtual world, like many other avatars inside the world, this opens possibility meeting with other avatars, this where community in the virtual world builds from.

Virtual world is an extremely creative natural world. While people visit Second Life or World of Warcraft, they are not see them as game world. They “shared experiences create a sense of reality”. The activity of those games is the building of interactive objects using a scripting simple language. Another activity of virtual world is to achieve of social position under emergent rule sets. “Create drama for fun and education. Make friends that matter. Navigate the line between compliment and criticism", Second Life roles to be played. Second Life offers society, target, commerce and a structured method of interacting.

Meadows (2008:51) argues that experiences create a grounding of belief. Well, I totally agree with Meadows statement. Since people play in virtual world, they build their own life, which they cannot have in the real world. In second life, they literally could customise any character they want and create a significantly different character than their real appearances. And you can make changes to the world itself. That is the reason why people enjoy virtual world, they have another life beside their real life!

Not only actions, the idea of improving the avatar are another feature from virtual world. This idea has been used in MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) games. Games that allow users to role-play the character inside the game, improving and making it stronger, that eventually encourage the user to spend more time inside the game’s world. This accumulative-building-system inside the virtual world differentiates between the worst and the best, the superior and the inferior. Many features inside virtual worlds mimics systems in the real world, this would give acknowledgements to the user’s avatar inside virtual world. Virtual world is a world where an imaginary cyber life takes on.

Socializing through the virtual world definitely makes the player more motivate. Not just with levels and quests, World of Warcraft for instance, it focuses on grouping and teamwork to give social feature to the game. Players can join or form which called Guild. Guild is a group of 10 or more players in the game. Within the guild also apply the hierarchy rank, leader as the highest rank and an initiate for the lowest rank. The higher rank in the guild, the more authority that the player has within the guild only. Guilding is another way to socialise with people in virtual game, they discuss and talk about the game.

Some of players playing World of Warcraft for their income, by trading the account or Warcraft’s money in game with real money currency, it is considering as illegal, but it is unavoidable for the game developer. This trading has an adequate market itself, there is many selling and buying transactions for World of Warcraft happened in real life, especially in Ebay. As the fact that, some gamer wants to skip the leveling part of the game and jump into the maximum character, many of them provide some leveling service for them or even selling the character that already in high level. The stronger of the character in that account, the more expensive will the price be for that character.

"All nationalists and patriotic Australians now have a political vehicle", Australian First Party

Extremism is a term to describe the moves or ideologies of a person or groups outside the perceived political center of a society or otherwise claimed to breach common moral standards, especially who advocates extreme action. An example of extremist group is Aryan Nations which doing a partnership with other extremists. This site includes an “All Things Islamic” and a members-only “Aryan Jihad” section that against the Jews.

Graeme Campbell founded the Australia First Party in June 1996 and at this time this minor political party is lead by Jim Saleam. Australia First Party based on old fashioned Labor Party that has abandoned by Australian Labor Party in 1970s. This Party is rejected the policies of Labor Party and The opposition Liberal Party. “The objects of Australia First include the endorsement, nomination and election to the respective Australian Parliaments of Members of the House of Representatives and of Senators, and members of State or Territory Parliaments, who support the core policies of Australia First and who present as general policies such policies as Australia First endorses in respect of each electorate from time to time.”

Their core policies such as make sure Australia maintain full independence, rebuild Australian manufacturing industries, control foreign ownership, control foreign ownership, reduce and limit immigration, abolish multiculturalism, introduce citizen’s initiated referenda, strengthen the family, strive to rebuild a United Australia and Democratise other policy issues. Australia First Party obviously looks like work in positive movement, but in fact they are in opposition to the Labor Party of Australia. The example of this extremist group’s activity is in 2007, they allocated 2500 brochures that stated that refugees spread crime and disease, claimed for a refugee program that would resettle up to five sundanese families in the area. The council had primarily disapproved the program.

The internet when it comes for spreading information has a big influence and benefit. This extremist organisation, Australia First Party put in a detail for necessary information in their website, from the constitution and rules to the links about their party. Other form of their way to deliver message by facilitates internet is on YouTube. Many speeches and activity they published on that new media. Australian First Party is an open organisation, that recruit membership through internet. They put the requirement for the membership in their website and how to get the application for any reader who interested with their organisation.
